When Vocatim is a better fit
Choose Vocatim if your starting point is an audio file, an interview or a conversation recorded on your iPhone. You want a transcript with speaker labels, the ability to correct names and text, and a summary without sending the audio to a transcription provider.
After downloading the required models, you can process recordings offline. That is useful when travelling or when you prefer to keep a personal recording library on your own hardware. You can also let your Mac process a recording from your iPhone.
Offline does not mean instant: the model, recording length and available memory affect processing time. Test a representative sample on the device you actually intend to use.
When Granola may be a better fit
Granola may suit a team that wants shared notes, business integrations and central administration. Its paid plans address that workflow. Vocatim’s local-first approach is not a claim of feature parity with those team tools.
This is not an accuracy benchmark. We have not run a controlled head-to-head test on identical recordings. Compare both with your own language, microphone and meeting format rather than assuming one is universally better.
How to evaluate a switch
- Pick a short recording you are allowed to use, with more than one speaker if that matters to you.
- Import it into Vocatim and check the free first five minutes.
- Review names, numbers, speaker changes and any background noise, not just the summary.
- Check export and playback, then decide whether the local workflow fits.
If you need everything to stay on one device, leave iCloud sync off. Enabling sync moves data through Apple’s infrastructure; sending a recording to your Mac also transfers it off the phone.

Is Vocatim a free Granola alternative?
It has a free trial covering the first five minutes of each recording. Longer recordings require a one-time purchase. It is not an unlimited free service.
Can I migrate my entire Granola workspace?
This guide does not promise a Granola workspace importer. Start with an audio file you already have and can import; do not assume that a notes export includes the original audio.
