A transcription app without a subscription

If you transcribe your own recordings, you may prefer buying an app to paying for another monthly service. Vocatim offers a one-time unlock for its local transcription workflow.

Try your own audio before paying

You can transcribe the first five minutes of each recording for free, including speaker labels. The one-time purchase unlocks longer recordings without a recurring Vocatim subscription. Check the App Store for the current price in your currency and device compatibility.

Use a sample that resembles your actual work: a meeting with several speakers, an interview in your usual language, or a memo recorded with your everyday microphone. Clear speech in a quiet room is not enough to evaluate a tool for noisy meetings.

What changes when the work runs locally

A cloud subscription often pays for someone else’s computing resources. A local app uses yours. You need storage for models and recordings, enough memory to run the chosen model, and time for the device to process audio.

A one-time unlock is not a promise of unlimited hardware capacity or instant results. Long sessions and larger models may be more practical on a compatible Mac than on your phone. Start small, then increase the workload after checking quality and processing time.

A buying checklist beyond the price

  • Accuracy: check names, numbers and difficult passages against playback.
  • Speakers: verify that labels follow the right people, not just that labels exist.
  • Export: make sure you can take the corrected transcript into your normal workflow.
  • Privacy: distinguish local processing from optional iCloud sync and sharing.
  • Practicality: test available storage, model size and processing time on your own hardware.

If you need organisation-wide collaboration or managed cloud processing, a subscription tool may still fit better. The right purchase depends on the workflow, not just whether the payment repeats.

Purchases and optional services

Apple handles the purchase. If the unlock is missing after reinstalling, use Restore purchases with the Apple Account that made the purchase. The support page explains the basic recovery steps.

Optional iCloud use is separate from local transcription and depends on your Apple setup and available storage. There is no need to enable sync just to process a recording on one device.

Common questions

Is the free version unlimited?

No. The free test covers the first five minutes of each recording. The one-time unlock removes that length restriction; practical device limits still apply.

Is there a recurring Vocatim transcription fee?

Vocatim’s advertised model is a one-time purchase, not a recurring subscription. Confirm the current purchase terms shown in the App Store before buying.
